About the program

Moscow Music School and the University of Hertfordshire offer international BSc undergraduate courses. You will study in Moscow while receiving a fully fledged UK degree. A Bachelor of Science degree enables you to secure employment or continue your education abroad. Courses are delivered in English by international music experts.

A program geared towards students who wish to master the craft of a sound engineer — a specialist who is well-versed in sound’s many intricacies, knows how to work with it both in the studio and front-of-house, and is capable of mixing and mastering music for release. Such specialists are highly sought-after in music and film production and in the concert industry.

Programme leader

Leonardo Perez is a record producer, sound engineer, composer, and co-owner of DTH Studios recording studio. Received his education at SAE Institute London and the London Centre of Contemporary Music (UK).

1. Course Structure

Module 1. Sound Technologies & Technics
This module introduces students to a range of key music and sound technologies and develops their technique(s) and strategies to both create and enhance audio content. This module introduces key theoretical and technical background to enhance understanding and provide a solid foundation, and a large focus is then placed on the practical application of this understanding.

Module 2. Audio Specialism
This module gives and introduction to the measurements of sound, along with basic acoustics and how this effects and dictated sound production, transmission and capture.  Potential problems that could have a negative impact on sound capture are explored from both an equipment perspective and room artefact perspective, and strategies are explored to attempt to minimise the impact of such problems at the sound capture stage.  Basic audio electronics understanding is introduced in order to support the work within this module.

Module 3. Professional Industrial Context
This module introduces a range of developmental material. Students are shown a range of differing resources and the requirements for their safe operation. The use of Studynet to enhance the learning and teaching experience is also introduced. In addition, the key legal concepts and frameworks within which the industry works are introduced, as is career-planning material.

Module 4. Audio Engineering Practice
Using industry standard tools in differing environments, students begin to develop their practice and approach to audio engineering.  Focus is placed on the role of the recording engineer and typical work within both studio and on location environments.
